"Flash Player Not Found" Flex Builder/Player patch

Mike Morearty has posted a fix for a FlexBuilder fix if you've installed FB3, or just the newest version of the Flash Player, and are all of a sudden seeing "Flash Player Not Found" when compiling your apps. Check it out here...

Update

Thank you. Your link helped found out about the Gumbo Flex 4 sdk that is great. But I think the fact that Flex 3 doesn't find the player when someone want to run an application is due to a configuration issue. One might have an issue with sdks but he/she might install the latest sdk and still have that problem. In my case Flex 3 couldn't find the player because my default bowser that was Flock; And Flex on my computer was configurated to run or debug the application inside a browser. So I changed the browser to use by Flex 3 from the default on my computer - Flock - to Internet Explorer and it start working fine. Note that you don't need to change your default browser, just change inside Flex 3, the browser to use. I love Flock because of its skin with dark shades around - less light that allow you to focus on the page you are viewing - and it simplicity, even if it's not really functionally the best browser.
But you can also configurate Flex 3 to run application in a stand alone player.
You can do all this by going to the "Create, manage and runs configurations" window. To open this window:
- click "Run" in the main menu;
- then click "Run", in the sub menu;
- and in the following sub menu, choose "Other...".
Once you get there, you will see "Flex Application" with a list of your projects and the included files in the left view of the window. Flex 3 use a default configuration that use of the default browser to run you application, when you are testing them. So:
- choose one file from one project inside the left view;
- in the right view, you will see three tabs, click on the "Main" tab if it's not the default selected;
- You must see the name of the file chosen with the .mxml extension in the combo box "Application file". Under that combo box, you have "URL or Path to launch", inside that zone uncheck the check box "Use defaults";
- then inside that zone you will see "Run" and "Debug", followed by text boxes and buttons labeled "Browse...";
- click on those buttons for either "Run" or both both of them, depending on what you want. You should be in the "Bin-debug" folder of the project of the file that you chose. Instead of the .html file, select the .swf file;
- click open to see the file name and its path inside the text box;
- then click "Apply' to apply all the changes.
And that's it. You can either run the file by clicking "Run" inside that window or just close that window. Anytime you will run an application it run in \side the browser or in a stand alone player, according to your configuration.

Also, make sure that your browsers have the correct plug-ins or activeX, Flash 9 or above.

The issue for running your test inside a bowser is that, it must have the Debugger Version of Flash Player 9. Get it at http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads... I use it along with Flash Player 10, that comes with Gumbo Flex 4 sdk, but Flash Player 9 Debugger Version is all you need.
To choose the browser to be use for your testing, in case you prefer a browser testing than a stand alone player testing, go to the main menu and click on:
- Window > Preferences;
- inside the window that will appear, you will see a tree structure. Click on "General" then "Web Browser";
- inside the view on the right, for external browser, check the browser that you want to use for testing your applications. It must have a Debugger Version of Flash Player 9 or above.
That's all.

And I forgot to add that the following is necessary if the default testing environment of Flex has been changed from browser use to stand alone player, you must restore to the use of browser. need go through the same steps as above for setting Flex for running in a stand alone player, but this time instead of choosing the the .swf file, choose the .html files. Here are the steps for configurating Flex 3 to run application with the browser:
- click "Run" in the main menu;
- then click "Run", in the sub menu;
- and in the following sub menu, choose "Other...".
- choose one file from one project inside the left view of the "Create, manage and runs configurations" window;
- in the right view, you will see three tabs, click on the "Main" tab if it's not the default selected;
- You must see the name of the file chosen with the .mxml extension in the combo box "Application file". Under that combo box, you have "URL or Path to launch", inside that zone uncheck the check box "Use defaults";
- then inside that zone you will see "Run" and "Debug", followed by text boxes and buttons labeled "Browse...";
- click on those buttons for either "Run" or both both of them, depending on what you want. You should be in the "Bin-debug" folder of the project of the file that you chose. Instead of the .swf file, select the .html file;
- click open to see the file name and its path inside the text box;
- then click "Apply' to apply all the changes.

Good luck guys.
